Introduction

Since its construction in 1879, the building has undergone several transformations and each time it’s been able to maintain its original essence. It now stands out as the majestic Cotton House Hotel, a contemporary benchmark of casual luxury.

Our history

1879, THE BOADA MANSION

The spectacular home of the Boada family.

The first two floors of the current building were built when the textile industry was booming. Miquel Boada, a cotton businessman and member of the Catalan bourgeoisie, commissioned architect Elies Rogent to build him a house. This is the backstory of the creation of this Neoclassical building, with its classic façade and luxurious interiors, that represents an era of splendor of the Catalan bourgeoisie.

1957, THE HOUSE OF COTTON

A building refurbished to house the headquarters.

In 1957, the association of cotton employers bought the building to create the House of Cotton, the headquarters of the Cotton Textile Foundation. The architectural design, handled by Rubió i Tudurí, conserved the 19th-century style, but adapted it to the needs of the new owners. The façade was preserved and four additional floors were built for offices and research laboratories. To connect them, a hanging spiral staircase was built. Distinguished with architectural awards, this staircase has been lovingly preserved. Half a century later, the Cotton House Hotel came into being.

2015, COTTON HOUSE HOTEL

Luxury accommodation immersed in the heritage of the cotton trade.

In this latest phase of its history, the building has become the astonishing Cotton House Hotel. The restoration project by Lázaro Rosa-Violán, completed in 2015, took great care to maintain and recover all the building’s original architectural elements. The large carriage doors, floating staircase and decorative features have been preserved. It’s now a space that blends history and contemporary functionalities for the comfort required by our guests.

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

A tour of the history of the hotel.

During their stay, guests can scan the QR codes distributed throughout the hotel to find out more about century-old objects and architectural details. This will give them greater insight into the treasures of the period, such as the marble staircase, fine parquet floors and paneling that decorates the ceilings, floors and walls. The collection forms part of Barcelona’s architectural heritage.
