Commitment to Sustainability – Cotton House Hotel
The hotel has Biosphere Certification, an international recognition granted by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI) for meeting sustainability criteria aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. This certification guarantees responsible environmental, social, cultural, and economic management, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable, high-quality tourism. It was awarded in March 2025.
Initiatives according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
SDG 1 – End of Poverty
- Financial support to social organizations and foundations.
- Donation of clothing, furniture, and household goods to charitable organizations.
- May 2025: Collection of 200 kg of clothing in collaboration with Cáritas, for the “Formació i Treball” Foundation.
SDG 2 – Zero Hunger
- Participation in the El Gran Recapte campaign.
- March 2023: We collaborated with the food bank to collect, sort, and distribute food for people in need.
- July 2025: We collected animal food in collaboration with the Barcelona Shelter.
SDG 5 – Gender Equality
- Collaboration with organizations fighting child sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
- July 2025: We provided training to train workers on how to react to attempted human trafficking.
SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation
- Production of hot water using renewable energy.
- Towel and sheet reuse program.
- October 2023: Installation of reverse osmosis water dispensers to reduce plastic waste.
SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy
- Energy supply through photovoltaic solar panels.
- Lighting with timers and motion sensors to reduce consumption.
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
- Full digitalization of management with a “Zero Paper” policy, using digital platforms.
SDG 10 – Reduction of Inequalities
- Financial support for organizations that promote the inclusion and rights of people from the LGBTQ+ community.
- June 2025: Charity Bingo – NEXTGEN -, to raise funds for the STOP AIDS Foundation.
SDG 12 – Responsible Production and Consumption
- July 2019: Replacement of plastic straws with paper straws
- Implementation and monitoring of the “Zero Paper” and reuse policy.
SDG 15 – Life on Land
- Planting and maintaining native plant species on the hotel terrace.
SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
- Financial support for various NGOs and associations for social causes.
- October 2024: Annual employee volunteering at Children’s Villages—maintenance and community support work—in collaboration with the Northern Spain Business Council.
