We spent the Halloween weekend in Barcelona, Spain, staying three nights at the Cotton House Hotel.
Housed in the former headquarters of the Association of Cotton House Manufacturers, the hotel is one of Marriott’s unique Autograph Collection. As you can see in our tour of the property, cotton is king in this hotel.
The Cotton House Hotel features 83 cotton-themed rooms, seven of which are spacious suites.
Here is a peek inside of room 207, one of the Cotton guest rooms with a king bed and a balcony overlooking the courtyard.
As you enter Room 207, you see cotton everywhere. Images of cotton plants. Cool, crisp, incredibly soft cotton linens.
The room is compact, but has everything a traveler needs for a luxurious stay, and a nice balcony. We love historic hotels with modern amenities, such as plugs and good lighting by the bedside.
Later, as we explored Barcelona’s Eixample and Gracia neighborhoods, we saw just how much the locals value their little slice of outdoor life via their balconies.
From the balcony, looking back into the room you see the flat screen television, desktop plugs for both European and US style plugs, storage bench and the all-important Nespresso machine. (It makes the best in-room cup of joe in any hotel.)
The photo above gives a closer view of the door entrance. Room 207 is compact with the bathroom divided into three areas. The sink and vanity mirror is part of the main hallway.
Real cotton bolls on their stems serve at the flower arrangement. The Cotton House Hotel has its own cotton fragrance.
The bath amenities at the Cotton House are from the exclusive Italian brand, Ortigia.
One of the small rooms off the entryway hall is the toilet.
Behind a separate door, across the hall from the sink, is the shower and bath tub room. (It is unusual in that the shower has no curtain or compartment, meaning when you take a shower you spray the entire room.) The rain fall shower head is impressive.
There are two closets for clothing storage. The closet by the door also includes coffee and tea-making supplies.
While those drawers below look like normal drawers, the top one is not.
When you open this drawer, you discover carefully stored wine glasses, a corkscrew, cocktail glasses, and even a bottle of Spanish Rioja wine (available for purchase.) Our bellman showed us this wonder after he delivered our bags, assuring us that it was okay to use the glasses and corkscrew with our own bottles of wine.
The Cotton House hotel offered nightly turn-down service, which really was more like complete housekeeping for your room a second time each day. As one might expect in a hotel that is focused on cotton, those cool cotton sheets make for comfortable sleeping.
Our bottom line on the Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection:
We loved this hotel’s location in an upscale residential part of Barcelona’s Eixample neighborhood.
The hotel offers a terrific combination of historic charm combined with amenities.
The hotel is unique and fits the Autograph Collection perfectly.
The rooms are compact but are designed to maximize useful space.
The breakfast spread in the restaurant was impressive and driven by local Spanish food. The cocktail bar and evening vibe was a little lacking.
The hotel is staffed heavily with hospitality interns from all over the world. They are friendly, helpful and are able to interact with a diverse clientele, but could perhaps benefit from some more experienced leadership. Our weekend stay coincided with the All Saints Day holiday, which may have resulted in abnormal staffing.
We used Marriott Rewards points to fund our 3-night stay. The hotel is a Marriott Rewards Category 8 hotel, and we considered it a fantastic use of points.
